What employees want from their employer – survey

7 out of 10 employees do not know what their salary should be based on the experience and skills in their CV and the market level, but 91% have the main expectation to be paid fairly. 9 out of 10 employees say that they want from their employer, first and foremost, a fair salary related to the labor market, but only 30% know how much they can ask for in an interview.

Almost 2 out of 3 employees are not satisfied with their current salary and even more (71%) plan to negotiate with their employer in the near future to obtain a higher salary, according to a recent survey. BestJobs.

To have a reference point in the negotiation, most employees (59%) get information about salary according to friends or acquaintances who work in the same industry or occupy a similar role, from statistics provided by official sources or recruitment platforms (40%), and 37% consults online salary comparison tools.

In a negotiation, half of the employees say they justify the need for a higher salary by the good results they have had at work, while almost 161% mention the workload being higher than that of their colleagues and the same number of support provided to their colleagues to solve their tasks at work.

Moreover, the criteria they take into account to justify their need for growth employee are experience (63%), job progression (53%), skill set (47%), seniority (almost 38%), salary received by other professionals in the same industry or role (approximately 19%), and cost of living (over 12%).

As the labor market matures with regard to salary transparency, Romanian candidates remain open to change and adapted to trends.

Thus, 63% are considering changing their field of activity in the next 5 years and reorienting themselves professionally, and the salaries offered (62%), better opportunities for professional growth and development (48%), flexibility of the schedule and working conditions in general (approximately 45%) are the main criteria they consider. In addition, in order to constantly evolve in their career, 56% plan to change their job, while 53% want to achieve their goals at work and 31% to get an accreditation or certification.

The survey was conducted between February and March on a sample of 1,275 internet users in Romania.
