Part-time jobs in high demand

Applications for part-time jobs increased considerably in the first part of 2023.

After, in the second half of last year, applications for part-time jobs decreased as a result of the decision to be taxed at the minimum wage level, in 2023 it seems that Romanians are starting to look again towards this option to supplement their income, with over 450,000 applications being registered since the beginning of the year for this type of job.

Half of the more than 450,000 applications registered this year for part-time jobs came from candidates aged between 18 and 24 who are either not yet earning their desired salary at their current job. work main job, or they want to make a career change and, for a while, they want to try something else. The number of applications drops drastically for candidates over 36 years old and who choose to wait until they find a better-paying job rather than working in two different places simultaneously.

Correlated with the age criterion, another aspect that stands out is related to the career level of those applying for a second job – over 80% of the applications belong to candidates with no previous professional experience and entry level (with a maximum of two years of experience). The percentage of those with seniority greater than 5 years is, on the other hand, marginal.

The fields where you find the most weekend or part-time jobs

Although the candidates' interest in work part-time or project-based is increasing compared to the first quarter of last year, the number of jobs put on the market by employers is 10% lower than the same reference period. Most options for those who want to supplement their income through a second, part-time job are in the arts/entertainment field. Followed by retail, services, transport/logistics, the food industry and tourism.
